We’re passionate about helping players find the right gear, whether you’re chasing your next tournament win, learning a new sport, or just hitting for fun on weekends. Because Topspin isn’t just another sports store, it’s run by players who live and breathe the game.

Our Story

Topspin was founded in 2012 by Philip van Antwerpen, a squash enthusiast with a dream of bringing high-quality, affordable racket gear to local players. In 2025, the business was taken over by his son Juan-Philip (JP) van Antwerpen, who continues to grow the brand with the same passion and authenticity that started it all.

As a competitive player himself, JP’s journey in racket sports runs deep. Recruited by Davenport University in the United States, he played college tennis while earning two degrees, later coaching both tennis and squash. Back home, JP has since:

  • Won the Gauteng Men’s Doubles title in Pickleball
  • Played Beach Tennis recreationally
  • Featured in the 360 Diamond League for Padel alongside Joburg’s elite players
  • Competed in local squash leagues and tournaments
  • Competed tennis in the Unites States at the Davenport University 2013-2017
